Every year I visit The Flying Pig Coffeehouse in Oak Island, North Carolina (OINC, get it?) and buy a mug. At home, for the rest of the year my morning ritual includes drinking coffee from one of these mugs. I now have four. I am quite excited to add the blue one to my collection.
"OINC" is 4 x 6 inches.

This elegant wasp found its way into our kitchen sink earlier this summer. It's pattern is so striking! And, I'll have you know that no one was stung in its removal from our house. It actually remained quite calm during the time I photographed it and then took it outside with a cup.
These pollinators don't have the same celebrity profile of bees, but they help out the plants just the same. "Wasp" is about 4 x 4 inches. If you look closely at the tiger swallowtail butterflies that are abundant these days in our part of Pennsylvania, you may notice that some have blue markings like this one. I just learned that this indicates that it is female.
I saw no less than four of these beautiful creatures today. Keep your eyes peeled! Rix Camp is in session, and my 6 year old daughter, Caitlyn, found a Red Spotted Purple butterfly during our field trip to the Pennypack Trail. I'd say her observation skills are pretty keen considering she spotted it while riding a bicycle!
Here's a throwback to 2003 when I lived in Center City with my new husband just before I became a teacher. I painted it on site in the middle of the Ben Franklin Parkway...I feel like the trees there are such a breath of fresh air!
My dear watercolors... we have been on quite a journey together through the decades! "Parkway Perspective" is 6 x 15 inches. |
