I've had a lot of luck with seed packages. This morning my daughter and I discovered this beautiful gem of a tiny delicate columbine flower. We had warning. Yesterday enough of the flower had grown for me to identify it and today before school, with delight, we checked and saw it had opened! Today's magic is the result of sprinkling what was called a "Hummingbird Garden" packet of seeds in this area of our garden two years ago. I love the surprises it yields. "Little Columbine" is 5 x 5 inches.

So here I am, nearly a half year into this "one a week" project, and a few days away from a reception at my first solo show at Elcy's Cafe (@ the Glenside Train Station)...see details here. I'm nervous, excited, and of course, busy. "Queen's Hive" shows a hive and its queen laying a few of the 1,600 eggs she will lay on a given day. Wow! Maybe I'm not so busy compared to her! Thank you to Briar Bush Nature Center for having a demonstration hive for me to look into back in 2013 when I took my reference photo. This watercolor painting is 13 x 13 inches and is one of the central pieces of the show at Elcy's. I hope you can come by to see it in person! Thank you to the former owner of my neighbor's house for planting this wonderful cherry blossom tree! This early bloomer was buzzing with bees before the petals drifted away. I can't help but wonder about the people who lived in my neighborhood who planted these trees and how it's like a part of them is still here, even though they are gone. My family and I planted a River Birch tree two years ago. I hope it brings joy to whoever gets to see it in 50 years! "Cherry Blossom" is a 5 x 7 inch watercolor painting. Terrariums. They hold a deep symbolism for me that I haven't quite put my head around completely. I think it has something to do with the Earth. As I educate myself about climate change in the macrocosmic sense...these little worlds act as a corresponding microcosm that I can observe and nurture. This is "Rabbit Foot Terrarium," an 8 x 10 inch watercolor painting that is currently hanging at Elcy's Cafe in the Glenside Train Station. Yes! My show is up! April 1 - May 12. |
