Your sneak peek of the day involves me and my flower book idea that has been brewing for, no joke, two years. While I thought at one point this would be a children's picture book...I even wrote a manuscript that I shelved...it has now become an accordion book. "My Little Flower Book" presents 10 flowers in the order in which they appear in my yard (or walkable distance from my yard) during early spring. Because I was whisked away by some helpful hands (Thanks, Michelle!) to bring this to the shop for a high res scan this morning, I present the last picture I took before I finished the project. Expect to see the fully realized idea at the Cheltenham Center for the Arts Shop Trunk Show, Friday April 8, 5-7pm where I will have my work available alongside the work of the lovely and talented fiber artist, Teresa Shields, and a surprise guest woodworker (Yay!). Refreshments and entertainment (PK Su) will be provided.

Hypericum and Chrysanthemum are a mouthful, but to me they also capture the season. The White Chrysanthemum symbolizes truth and purity. The Hypericum, also commonly known as St. John's Wort, produces this poisonous berry which is (ironically) called "toute saine" or totally healthy. Something struck me about the way they look together. "January" is painted in watercolor, 7 x 5 inches. Is honey a by-product of rainbows? Aristotle may not have known present day science about honey production, but I do think that he was on to something when he made the hypothesis that honey precipitated from the air when rainbows descended. (Reference: A Short History of the Honey Bee by E. Readicker-Henderson, 2009.) "Bee balm" is an archival giclée print on high quality fine art paper that I had made from a high resolution scan of a watercolor I painted. It is 5 x 5 inches and is a part of an edition of 35 that I am looking to move out into the world! If you would like one for yourself or a loved one, it's yours this week for $15! Email me or comment on this post by Tues, Dec. 22nd. Free Shipping!!! Scarlet geraniums are comforting according to the language of flowers. Today's return to watercolor is both a commissioned work and, as it turns out, a great comfort to me. I inherited two geranium plants yesterday from my grandparents who are now reunited in Heaven. "Scarlet Geranium" is 8 x 10 inches. |
